Obituary for Robert E. "Bob" Rayburn
Robert E. "Bob" Rayburn, age 82, of Knox, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 at his home. Bob was born in Forrest, Illinois to Jesse and Annabelle (Fellers) Rayburn, who have both preceded him in death. He was a Veteran of the First Marine Division having served in Korea. Bob was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Knox and a Founding Member and Board Member of LOVE, Inc., he was retired from Teamsters Local 364 in South Bend and had been a member of Teamsters Local 705 in Chicago, he drove truck for Rudolf Express in Bradley, IL, he had been a police officer for the Bourbonnais and Bradley, IL Police Departments, had worked for the Starke County Sheriff's Dept., he held a degree from the National District Attorney Academy in Huntsville, Texas as a Prosecutor Investigator, he was a two term President of the Bass Lake Property Owners Assoc., Implemented the Bass Lake Neighborhood Watch Program in 1996, and along with his wife Sandy, was Grand Marshall of the Bass Lake Festival. On November 3, 1973 he married Sandra L. (Vandervliet), she survives. Also surviving are his children, Londa Schwartz of Tennessee, Larry Lord of Idaho, Steven Rayburn of Oklahoma, Ronald Rayburn of Utah, and Tom Rayburn of Illinois, brothers and sisters, Billy Rayburn of England, James Rayburn, Wayne Rayburn, Cookie Miller and Pamela Thomas, all of Illinois, 9 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Rayburn and sisters, Pat Shotwell, Barbara Ohrt, and Jackie Levertt. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 from 4-8pm (ct) at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 12 noon (ct), with visitation two hours prior to services, at New Hope Baptist Church in Knox. Interment will take place at Bass Lake Cemetery in Knox. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the New Hope Baptist Church would be appreciated.
