Obituary for Bud Simpson
Neil John “Bud” Simpson, age 82, of Knox, passed away Tuesday, December 05, 2017 at his home. Bud was born September 23, 1935 in Chicago to Neil and Sylvia Robertson Simpson, both deceased. He was a Veteran who served in the U.S. Army and was very active in local veterans organizations, having worked to re-open the Hamlet American Legion many years ago, he was still a member of the Knox American Legion and Knox VFW. He was an entrepreneur and had owned and operated many businesses over the years including; Cunningham Oil and Bud’s Gas in Chicago, Bud’s Gas in Knox which was later known as the Pickle Barrel, the Hamlet Truck Plaza, and Fast Break. He was a self-employed truck driver and had worked for Standard Forwarding, Rockwell Windows (Barber & Ross) and Alexander Chemical. He had been a member of Teamsters Locals 707 in Chicago, 364 in South Bend and 135 in Indianapolis.
On April 27, 1957, in Chicago, he married Mary Louise Besowshek, she survives. Also surviving are his children, Deborah Simpson (J.D.) of St. Charles, IL, Diane Kepa (Chris) of Valparaiso, Jimmy Simpson of Knox, Sandy Taylor (Jay) of North Judson, Lori Waletzko of Knox, Shari Tompkins (Marty Minix) of Knox, Rick Simpson (Geri) of Knox, and Ron Simpson of Knox, grandchildren, Adam and Sarah Kepa, Taylor (Amber) Simpson, Alyssa (Eryk) Walton, Blake (Kylie) Simpson, Steven Taylor, Brandi Taylor, Cassie Waletzko, Justin Tompkins, Lindsey Simpson, Andrew Simpson and Meaghan Simpson, and great grandchildren, Ellie, Gaeg and Paxton. Visitation will be Friday, December 8, 2017 from 4-8pm (CT), with a rosary service at 8pm, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral mass will take place Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11am (CT) at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hamlet. Visitation will take place Saturday morning at the funeral home from 9:30am until leaving in procession for the church, 10:30am. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Hamlet. Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Hamlet.
