Obituary for Martha Cole Allen
Martha Allen, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2017 at Golden Living Center in Knox, Indiana. Martha was born January 27, 1925 in Quicksand (Breathitt County), Kentucky to the late Charles Mann and Jessie Caudill Mann. In 1947, she married Beecher Cole Sr., who preceded her in death in 1986. Together they had two children – daughter, Carol Jean Standifer and son, Beecher Cole Jr., both preceding her in death. Later in life, in 1997, Martha married Reverend Creed Allen, who also preceded her in death in 2003. Martha was also preceded in death by two sisters - Lou Vena Mann and Mary Cole, and three brothers – Samuel Mann, John Mann, and William (Bill) Mann.
Martha worked at Holy Cross (Little Company of Mary) for 35 years before finally retiring. She was an active member of Highway Chapel Church of God in Hamlet, Indiana. Martha loved to garden, cook, sew, collect dolls, and attend church.
Martha is survived by one sister, Laverna Cole and one brother, Cecil Mann. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her loving daughter-in-law Julie Cole and numerous family member and friends.
M.C. Smith Funeral Home of Knox is in charge of funeral arrangements. Visitation will be held 10am to 12pm on October 2, 2017 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home, with services immediately following, officiated by Reverend Dan Allen. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox, Indiana.
