Obituary for Kenneth James Owens
Kenneth James Owens, age 51, of Peru, Indiana passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2020. Kenneth was born November 5, 1968 in Winamac, Indiana to Ronald and Sandra (Francis) Owens. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having gone in to the service immediately after graduating from high school. After being discharged from the Army he went to Purdue University where he went on to earn a Bachelors Degree. He had been a corrections counselor for the past 12 years at the Miami Correctional Facility in Bunker Hill, Indiana. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Rochester, he was an avid coin collector, loved to read books and loved to travel. He would say that you haven’t visited a state until you drink a beer or eat ice cream. He had maintained the same circle of friends since kindergarten and will be missed by many. He is survived by his father, Ronald Owens of Columbia, TN, step-children, Arik Shanklin of Rochester, IN and Abby Shanklin of South Whitley, IN, a brother, Dennis Owens of Santa Fe, TN, and two grandchildren, Ryder Johnson and Rayland Shanklin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Owens. A private family graveside service will take place at Highland Cemetery in North Judson, IN. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements
