Obituary for William E. "Bill" Wallace
William E. “Bill” Wallace, age 82, of Knox, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at his home. Bill was born August 25, 1937 in Hammond, Indiana to Charles O. Wallace and Hannah Amm Wallace, both deceased. He was baptized July 5, 1938 at St. John Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, Indiana and confirmed at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. He graduated in the Knox High School Class of 1956 and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduation. In 1959 he graduated from the Indiana College of Mortuary Science and had worked as a funeral director and embalmer from that time until 1964. In 1964 he went to work for the Carpenters and Millwright Union Local 1043 having served 7 years as Pension Trustee and 19 years on the District Council, became a Business Representative in 1988 and retired on October 3, 1997. After retirement he enjoyed restoring his 1961 Corvair Rampside pickup truck. On June 17, 1961, in Hamlet, Indiana, he married Ivyl J. Roysdon, she survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Michelle Murray (Rod) of Pittsburg, PA, grandchildren, Megan and William, brothers and sisters, Glenn Wallace (Bev), Nancy Back (Angelo), Kenneth Wallace (Cindy), Karen Keehn (Larry), all of Knox, and Dennis Wallace of Hamlet. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers and sisters, Marlene and Darlene Wallace, Dale and Dean Wallace, and Linda Holbrook.
Visitation will take place from 4-8pm (CT) Thursday, August 20, 2020 at M.C. Smith Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11am (CT) Friday, August 21, 2020, with visitation one hour prior to services, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. Burial will follow at Fletcher Cemetery in Hamlet.
