Obituary for Shirley A. Stout
Shirley A. Stout, 91, of Knox, passed away at home on Friday, August 5, 2022.
She was born on October 30, 1930, in Starke County, to the late Carl and Ella (Roseman) Marks. In 1952, she married Forrest D. Stout from Monterey, IN. Together they traveled to different states and Italy, where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy, returning to Indiana in 1976.
She worked as a bookkeeper at the Office of Family Services until 1993 and retired to travel with her husband, visiting all 50 states. She also worked as the church office secretary at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, of which she was a lifelong member.
Shirley loved reading and watching westerns, traveling, tending to her bird feeders and flower gardens, spending any time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed participating with niece, Peg Brettin, at Santa’s Clauset every Christmas for the past 14 years.
Shirley is survived by a daughter, Karen Stout of Knox, a son, F. Dale Stout II of Virginia Beach, and a daughter, Debra Snyder (Randy) of Fort Wayne, five grandchildren, Steven, Daniel and Brian (Miranda) from Virginia, and Scott and Kyle Snyder from Fort Wayne, seven great grandchildren, Dylan, Aleaha, Melanie, Kayla, Madelyn, Jaxon, and Ariah-all Stouts from Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lt. Cdr. Forrest Stout, a sister, Elaine Boudreau and a brother, Robert Marks.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at 1:00pm (CT), with visitation two hours prior to the services, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. Burial will follow at the Bass Lake Lutheran Cemetery. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
