Obituary for Sheldon Paul Berndt
Sheldon Paul Berndt, age 79, of Knox, passed away on August 7, 2024. He was born in Hamlet, IN to parents Peter Berndt and Jeanette Berndt (Hausen), both deceased. Sheldon married Kathy Myers on September 6, 1969. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. He was employed at Starke County Co-op for forty years. He enjoyed the simple things in life, such as mowing the grass, sitting on his back porch, trading stories at Keith’s barbershop, watching Notre Dame football, spending every minute with his grandchildren, even going to all their games and dance recitals. Sheldon was an active member of the VFW Post #748 in Knox. He was always offering a helping hand to others and was also a well-known prankster.
He is survived by his wife Kathy Berndt, children Kelly Gerlach (Todd), Keith Berndt (Janeen), Brett Berndt (Andrea), siblings Helen Guriel, Jerry Berndt (Bonita), Alan Berndt (Linda), Kim Potts (Garry), Brian Berndt (Sherry), grandchildren Bryce & Cameron Gerlach, Logan & Jonah Berndt, Brynn & Ashlynn Berndt.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 2pm (CST), at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox. Visitation services will be four hours prior to service time. Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cheryl Lyn Welter Family Charitable Foundation or the Linda Hardesty Scholarship Fund, in Memory of Sheldon Berndt.
