Obituary for Robert J. Ahlenius
Robert J. Ahlenius, age 90, of Knox, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 at home surrounded by family. Robert was born on April 15, 1926 in Chicago, IL to John and Marie Anna (Ristol) Ahlenius. Robert grew up in Chicago and later moved to Knox with his family. He joined the U.S. Army and served his country honorably in Okinawa, Japan during World War II. He returned to Chicago and married his wife, Joan (Schuler) Ahlenius. They had three children, Linda Jean Sowadski, Susan Marie Taylor and Robert James Ahlenius. He then moved to Carpentersville, IL where he raised his family and retired from Motorola. After Joan passed away in 2007, he moved back to Knox.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother John Ahlenius, his son, and his grandson, Michael Wilhoit. Robert is survived by his two daughters, Linda Sowadski and Susan Taylor (Will), his two brothers, Frank Ahlenius, Sr. and Phil Ahlenius, his sister-in-law, Marge Ahlenius. He has six grandchildren, Sarah Clausen (Cliff), Dan Ahlenius (Amy), Diana Sowadski, Robert Wilhoit (Bobbie), Michelle Wilhoit, and Brian Sowadski and 10 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family memorial service has taken place.
