Richard E. Wagner
“Well, you’ll remember me a little. I’ll be a story in your head. But that’s okay: We’re all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh? Because it was, you know, it was
the best.”
Richard E. Wagner, SUPERHERO, Life Partner, Dad, Son, Brother and Friend, died unexpectedly, Sunday, January 19 th , 2025. Born in 1969, Rick grew up in Scottsdale, lived in Evergreen Park, and worked in Chicago. Recently retired after 30 years as a Cook County Correctional Officer, he was happiest at Bass Lake, Indiana where he loved to fish, tinker, boat and relax. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, dry humor, and his bargain hunting skills.
Rick lived the life of a Family Man, providing and protecting his loved ones. He and his mom spoke regularly and enjoyed shopping together and outings to Pizza Plus. He dreamed only the best for Dana, Nyssa, and Tristan. It was rare to see one without the other at Dr. Who Conventions, King’s Buffet, school activities, movie theaters, and Indiana State Beach.
Tristan, Nyssa, and Dana’s words from their hearts describe how they admired their father, husband, and hero.
Tristan – “Dad, you were the best father anyone could ask for in the world. You cared so much for all of the people around you and did everything to help. You got me into so many great things like Star Wars, DC, Marvel, and fishing. The best times that we shared and I will treasure were when we talked and joked about random things. I will always love and remember when you called me Bud and Buddy.”
Nyssa – “You were always so proud, bragging about us all of the time. You were my first call in an emergency with advice, protecting me and keeping me safe. You made me the person I am today, and I will spend the rest of my life remembering that. You are the galaxy’s best dad.”
Dana – “Best Friend, Husband, and Father. We loved, laughed, listened, and supported each other. Though Rick was dedicated to his work, we were his priority when he walked through the door with a smile on his face and a kiss for me. Sometimes we drove each other crazy, usually about one of his creative ideas, dreams, or plans. Oh, what I would give right now for one of those colorful conversations over breakfast. Thank you for the million memories. I will cherish them as I cherish you, my love.”
