Obituary for Maryola Harbison
Maryola Craycraft Harbison died on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2015. She was born to Jessie and Chester Craycraft in Ridgefarm, Illinois on August 10, 1918. She had two sisters and a brother, Rosalee, Eleanor and Robert, all deceased. The family moved to Russellville, Indiana where she attended high school along with her sweetheart, and later, husband, Ralph "Duck" Harbison. They were married March 10, 1939. They had three children, Sondra, Karin, and Steven. Her heart was broken, as was that of Duck, when Sondra died in 1963. She is survived by daughter Karin, her husband John Dicks, their two children, Heather and Joel, along with Joel's wife Susan and two great-grandsons, Joshua and Ryan; and son Steven, his wife Judy, their daughter Tara Swanson, her husband Jeff and great-grandsons, Hunter and Carter. In 1958, Ralph and Maryola moved to Knox, Indiana where he became superintendent of Knox schools and she immersed herself in community activities, including lifelong membership in PEO. During their lives in Knox, over the next forty years, they positively touched many lives, both spiritually and educationally. Both were committed members of the Knox Christian Church. Maryola loved to read, quilt, knit, play bridge and visit family and friends. She and Duck loved to travel and visited all 50 states as well as several foreign countries. Florida in the winter and their cabin in Iron Bridge, Ontario in summer were favorite spots. We will especially remember her smile, laugh, jelly rolls, quilts and good times visiting in Canada. A graveside service will be held at the Hebron Cemetery in Russellville, Indiana at 12:00 noon, Thursday, January 22, 2015. She will be buried next to her dear husband, Duck. Following the service, lunch will be served at the Russellville Community Church. Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home, Knox, Indiana. No flowers please; rather the family suggests a memorial gift in the name of Maryola to the Northern Indiana Community Foundation, Knox Community School Corp. Student Scholarship Fund, PO Box 807, Rochester, Indiana 46975.
