Obituary for Larry R. Dykhuizen
Larry R. Dykhuizen, “the man beside the horse”, on May 15, 2021, at the age of 80, went home to be with the Lord. He was a man not afraid to chase his dreams across America, usually pulling a trailer of fast horses behind his Chevy truck. The lady in the saddle was his beloved wife of 60 years, Dixie Dykhuizen, his most precious caregiver in his final years. They were married on October 29, 1960, Inseparable from the day they met, their love and devotion to each other put a smile on your face every time he would say the anniversary was approaching and negotiations for another year would soon begin. They were blessed with children, Yvonne Gropp (Ron) of Greenfield, IN and Torri Kollar (Rodger) of Grovertown, IN, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was also survived by a brother, Tom Keiser (Nancy) of Lafayette, IN, all adding to his followers through spouses, friends and followers over the years. He would skip the list of names while remembering old friends as they went home over the years, so we will too. He loved them and they loved him. He would wan to tell them all, just as he did the week before he died; “Meet me in Heaven!” And in his usual strong manner it was as much a command as a plea. His grandson put it well, “I want to remember the man who could dig fence post holes faster than me when I was in my prime.” So Larry would want you all to chase your dreams, find the love of your life to do it with, and help those you can along the way. He loved golfing and fishing, but was passionate about training horses and riders to race. Cremation has taken place and there will be no services at this time.
M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
