Obituary for Juanita "Jane" Smith
Juanita “Jane” Smith, 73, of Knox, IN passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 at Miller’s Merry Manor of Culver. She was born in Harlingen, TX on July 19, 1947 to Augustin Sr and Francisca Tamayo. Always considering Lima, OH her hometown, she met and married her husband, Robert “Bob” Smith on December 20, 1969. She worked as a baker, a department store manager, and retired as a seamstress from her favorite shop, Nitza’s of Lima. Jane enjoyed spending time barefoot in the kitchen where she was best known for her unbelievable dishes, especially her tortillas and tamales. She was also known to enjoy dancing, singing along to Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman. At home, Jane loved playing cards and board games, pinching her husband when he “cheated” to win. Her infamous wit and undeniably beautiful smile will be missed by her cherished family. Jane is survived by her husband, Bob, her son Phillip Smith (Haley) of Ada, OH, and her daughters, Teresa (Steve) Zemke of Lapeer, MI and Melissa (Greg) Smith-Watkins of Knox, IN. She is also survived by siblings Augustin Jr Tamayo, Guadalupe (Darla) Tamayo, both of Lima, OH, Felipe (Diane) Tamayo of Dublin, OH, Jose (Annette) Tamayo of Jackson, MI, Abran (Ronda) Tamayo of Wichita, KS, Alberto (Denise) Tamayo of Lake, MI and Maria Tamayo of Lansing, MI and her best friend Deb (Jeff) Martin of Ottawa, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two siblings, Marina and Bertha Tamayo. Jane was proud of her seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. A Celebration of Life is planned for the afternoon of July 17, 2021 where her remains will be scattered in a field of daisies, her favorite. In lieu of flowers, appreciation gifts should be sent to the nursing staff at Miller’s Merry Manor, 730 School Street, Culver, IN 46511. The family asks that all gifts be sent with a card simply reading, “Love you more!”
