Janet M. Wallen, age 82, of Knox, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026. Janet was born August 15, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to Roy and Hazel Curry, both deceased. She cherished her time working by her husband’s side, Rev. Charles Wallen, as Assistant Youth Minister at the Bible Baptist Church, many years ago. She also served along side her husband at New Hope Baptist Church as a loving and caring Pastor’s wife, working diligently on Vacation Bible School and Christmas programs. She loved helping the elderly and enjoyed her time as a home-health nurse, but she especially loved “Grammy Nights” spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Connie Suz McEntee (Pat) of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, Kristina Horn (Aaron Lowe) of Knox, and Charlene Decker (James) of Chesterton, Indiana, a sister, Virginia Bigelow of Brick, New Jersey, her grandchildren, Karson Doll (Mikayla Mitchell), Charles Doll (Drew Berger), James Decker III (Kerstin), Elizabeth McEntee, Brooklyn Decker Redelman (Nate), A.J. Lowe and Ethan Lowe, and great grandchildren, Tip Decker and Alivia Decker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Hazel Curry, her husband, Rev. Charles Wallen, two brothers, Roy Curry and Eugene Curry, and a great granddaughter, Ryann Redelman.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, April 13, 2026 at 1pm (CT), with visitation two hours prior to services, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. A private burial will take place at Round Lake Cemetery.
