James Edwin Sellers Sr., age 93, of Knox, died Thursday, May 29, 2025 after an extended illness. He was born November 24, 1931 in Knox, Indiana to Samuel Issac Sellers and Millie Pearl Kenyon Sellers. Jim grew up in the Knox area attending the North Bend Township School. He later attended the Knox schools. He served in the United States Army for two years, followed by the reserves. Jim was honorably discharged on December 1, 1961. After the service, he farmed, ran a dairy, and drove school bus. Jim was first married to Betty Jo Hurt (deceased), he later married Irene Bailey Reed (deceased). In 1980 Jim married Nancy Ann Samuelson.
Jim was interested in rebuilding International tractors, as he thought RED RULES! He could repair anything with a motor. He worked for several area farmers, he maintained a pristine garden with flowers and vegetables. He loved his chickens with a passion, but cared for many other animals. In later life, he looked forward to seeing his friends at McDonalds every day for coffee.
Jim was preceded in death by his four siblings, Ida Oliverius, Joseph Harold Sellers, Samuel I. Sellers Jr., and Glenda Belle Salzer. He is survived by one brother, Paul Sellers (Arlene). Also surviving are his wife, Nancy A. Sellers and her daughters Bonnie Samuelson of Culver and Beth Samuelson Baker of Knox, his sons, James Hurtsellers (Christine) of Fernandina, Florida, Joey Hurtsellers (Shelly) of Maumee, Ohio and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 11am to 2pm (CT) at the Starke County Council on Aging at 311 E. Culver Rd., Knox.
