George E. Werner Sr., age 84, of Wanatah, Indiana passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025. George was born April 10, 1941 in Hanna, Indiana to Earl H. Werner and Lorraine Egolf Werner, both deceased. He was a proud Veteran having served in the U.S. Airforce as a mechanic, having worked on the Voodoo F-101 jets in Thailand, Okinawa and Viet Nam. He spent his working career driving truck as a steel hauler and a mechanic. After retiring he continued driving truck for Kaiser Crop Services and Colter Farms. He loved MOPAR vehicles and his RAM truck, tinkering in the garage, and vacationing in Arizona and Texas. He was also a member of the Lacrosse Christian Church. On September 17, 1960 he married Kathleen Ledbetter, she survives. Also surviving are his two sons, George E. Werner Jr. of Hanna, Indiana and Rusty A. Werner (Amy) of Texas, three grandchildren, Tony, Dustyn and Gage, and brothers and sisters, Harold Werner (Donna), Kenneth Werner, David Werner (Faye), Keith Werner, Tim Werner, Dianna Sutter, Jeanett Tucker (David) and Loretta Ware. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Louis, John, Charles, and Ivan Werner.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 12noon (CT), with visitation one hour prior to services, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox.
