Obituary for Ernest G. "Mister" Martinez Jr.
Ernest G. (Mister) Martinez, Jr., 77, passed away on Thursday, April 23, at his sister’s home in Culver, IN. He was born on November 24, in Chicago, IL to the late Nadine Sanchez and the late Ernest G. Martinez, Sr.
Mister was especially fond of the years he spent growing up in Auburn, IN, where he learned to love the outdoors and was able to excel in many sports (including becoming a Golden Glove Boxer). He graduated from St. Phillips High School in Chicago, IL and cherished the long-lasting friendships he made as part of the infamous Taylor Dukes Social Club. He was a stellar salesman and a renowned motivational speaker. Had a special way of connecting with people through his personality, charm and sense of humor. He loved to go dancing, read books, tell jokes, and enjoyed all things sports related. One of his greatest achievements was his sobriety. Mister was a recovering alcoholic who remained sober for over 40 years without one setback. This as a result of a special promise he made to God and St. Jude, the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes whom he turned to often throughout his life. His family, close friends and faith were those he treasured most in life.
He is survived by his two daughters: Gina Marie Martinez, Melissa Martinez; one grandchild, Kayla Weigand; his brother, Michael Sechrist (Mary Vondriska); sister, Raquel G. Martinez (Eric Denny) and his former wife, Carol (Romano) Martinez.
Arrangements are being made by MC Smith Funeral Home in Knox, IN and the memorial service will be held at a date to be determined.
