Obituary for Donald E. Wilken
Donald E. Wilken, age 87, of Avon, IN, formerly of Knox, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015. Born in LaPorte, IN, December 31, 1927, parents now deceased were Edwin and Freeda Wilken. Don was a graduate of Knox High School, he then served in the US Army, where he was honorably discharged on November 7, 1947. He and Lois Warkentein, of North Judson were married, November 27, 1947. He later attended Valparaiso University for his accounting degree. Lois passed away in 1970. Don married Lila (Short) Bolen, April 23, 1971, who preceded him in death in 2010 and is survived by Don's step daughter, Karen (Bolen) McClure of Bend, OR. Don worked as a Field Supervisor for the Indiana State Board of Accounts until retirement to Florida in 1990. Don and Lila relocated to Avon, IN, in 2006. The move back to Indiana enabled them to be close to family. He is survived by his son, Edward Wilken (Donna), of Avon, Indiana, his daughter, Donna DiDomenico (Al) of Laguna Beach, CA. His grandchildren, Tracy L. Villigrana of Dana Point, CA., Blaine W. Wilken (Tara) of Plainfield, IN., Andrew E Wilken (Laura) of Mooresville, IN., and three great grandchildren Don was active as a musician, playing Big Band era music during his early years, on the trumpet and Saxophone with a live dance band. He enjoyed RV camping, traveling, boating, fishing and golf until recent years. Then his enjoyment became college sports, Colts football and time with family. Dad, Grandpa, Gramps, and GGpa will be missed by many. Graveside services with family was on April 8, 2015, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox, IN. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
