Obituary for Connie Blackwell

Connie Louise [Barickman] Blackwell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2025, at the age of 86 surrounded by loved ones. Connie was born in Clendenin, West Virginia on January 24th, 1939, to the late Claire Barickman and Helen [Barickman] Young.

Connie was proceeded in death by both her parents, sister, Shirley Mullins, and niece, Danita Mullins. Connie is survived by her brother JR [Connie] Barickman, Robert Blackwell, her husband of 67 years, and their two daughters Angela Webster and Robin Dudek. Connie is also survived by her four granddaughters: Jessica [Ryan] Scott, Candace Kroledge [James Roach], Serenity Wyatt [Blaire Lawson], and Jenna Dudek; 1 niece and 2 nephews, in addition to 5 great-grandchildren, who will cherish memories of their MaMaw.

During her childhood in Clendenin, Connie was involved in the music department at school as well as being a Majorette in the high school band. She went on to Business School to pursue her secretarial skills and to excel in shorthand. Connie attended Reamer Gospel Tabernacle for most of her life, married Robert, the love of her life, in 1958 and had two children before moving to Portage, Indiana.

As a family, they enjoyed traveling to the Carolinas with their camper, taking the kids on many adventures which then led to the love of RV camping later in life. Connie was a bank teller for 30+ years and worked for the city of Portage in the Planning Dept. before retiring from the Indiana Toll Road.

Connie was a Breast Cancer survivor of nearly 20 years proving evidence to her strength, hope, and faith. She will be remembered for her giving heart, sense of humor, and love for Jesus. Connie loved her family, their 2 Maltipoos, gardening, nature, sewing and crocheting, working on her Charles Wysocki puzzles, and bargain hunting. She could be found quoting her favorite chapter of the Bible, Psalm 23, and singing her favorite song “How Great Thou Art”.

Everyone who met Connie would express gratitude for her love and kindness. A Celebration of Life will occur this summer for family members to reflect and remember all the ways Connie’s legacy will live on.

Connie will be dearly missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
