Obituary for Bonny M. Olson

Bonny M. Olson, 85 of Knox, died Thursday, May 28, 2020, at her home. Bonny was born October 7, 1934, in Knox, IN, to Chester and Lillian (Byrne) Emigh. She attended Knox Community Schools and Indiana University. She maintained a permanent residence in the Knox area all her life and passed away peacefully in her home on Henry Drive where she raised her children and shared many memories with her family and friends. On February 11th, 1956, in Knox, IN, she married Carl Coffin Jr. and they had three children, Curt, Daniel, and Amy.
Bonny worked for the Starke County Auditor and retired after many years of service. She loved her job and all the friends and acquaintances she encountered while working there. Bonny was an avid bowler, traveler, card player, and loved watching college basketball, football, and golf. She was a loyal American Legion member and served as the Women’s Auxiliary President Unit 131 from 2016 – 2019. She had a magnetic way about her, a certain charm that made everyone feel welcomed. She continued to visit her beloved local American Legion until the very last few months of her life.
Bonny re-married Herbert Olson in 1993 which started a new chapter in her life as the Olson family welcomed her with arms wide open. Bonny and Herb enjoyed their time together traveling with friends and family. They spent the summers in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where they had a home and spent their winters in Arizona where they would visit family, friends, and casinos. They made many cross-country adventures together while Herb was at the wheel and Bonny navigating as his co-pilot. The dynamic duo shared many great memories and years together before his passing in 2010.
Bonny had an amazing life filled with an abundance of love, laughter, family and friends. She kept the ones she loved close and was steady, true and always a bright light to everyone around her.
Bonny is survived by her two children, Daniel (Lori) Coffin of Wanatah, and Amy (Tedmund) Bauer of Monterey; two sisters, Gerry (Robert) Trigg, of Knox and Barbara Enyart of Rochester; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Step daughters; Glory Hughes, Candace Napier, Debbie Yetsko, Susan Olson and step sons; Timothy, Thomas, Archie, Gary and Joey. She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Lillian; first husband, Carl Coffin; second husband, Herb Olson; sister, Betty Keiser; and son, Curt Coffin.
