Obituary for Angelo G. Back
On Friday, November 23, 2018, Angelo G. Back, loving husband, father of two, and grandfather of 6, passed away at the age of 84 at Porter Regional Hospital in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Angelo was born in Swampton, Kentucky on February 28, 1934 to Sewell and Rosie (White) Back. Angelo made an impression on the love of his life when he was only 19, Nancy L. Wallace, who he would eventually marry 8 years later and spend 57 beautiful years together. They were happily married on March 4, 1961 in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox, Indiana.
Angelo was a hard-working, kind and gentle man. He served in Korea in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. After the armed forces, Angelo found himself a modest job at the Ford Motor Company in East Chicago Heights, Illinois. After 39 and a half years, he retired from Ford and moved on to working in the yard, gardening, and being the handy man that would never say no if you asked for help. He would make time for anyone who needed it and always put everyone in front of himself.
Angelo is survived by his wife Nancy, two beautiful daughters, Debbie Pilcher (Jerry) of Neptune Beach, Florida and Angie Maddrill (John) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and six grandchildren, Emily, Alex and Reed Pilcher and Jack, Oliver and Lucy Maddrill. Angelo would drop anything to take them for a ride on the red tractor or to the McDonalds so he could spend time with them and make sure they grew up to be just like him.
His surviving siblings are: Roger Back (Joanie) of Walkerton, Indiana and Evelyn Meyers (Bob) of Monon, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Esther Back, Shirley Jones, Carrie Mann and Opal Owens, and his brothers, Ollie, Jollie, Glaster and Costalo Back.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 3-7pm (CT) at M.C. Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 11am (CT), with visitation one hour prior to services, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Knox. Burial will take place at Oak Park Cemetery in Knox.
