Allen Grant Cornelius, 60, of Knox, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 17, 2026 of natural causes. Allen was born and lived his entire life in Knox, making many friends along the way.
He is survived by his parents, Jack and Shilla Cornelius; his brother, Jason Cornelius; his sister, Carolla Heilstedt; his partner, Brigitte Tholl; his dogs Jumbo, Stella and Doc; and his Harley, a ’79 shovelhead.
Allen was a good friend, and skilled carpenter. A graduate of Knox High School, Allen grew up playing football and wrestling, and he stayed close with many of his school friends for decades after graduation. He volunteered with ABATE, and loved to help raise funds for the Christmas toy drive, making many new friends through the years.
When Allen wasn’t working or riding, he was throwing legendary hog roasts or hanging out with his pups. He loved them just as much as he loved all of his friends and family. (Almost as much as he loved a commemorative beer sign or his shovelhead.)
A celebration of life will be held at the Knox VFW on August 15, 2026 from 1pm to 5pm (CT). Bring a story to tell and a memory of Allen to share. We’ll bring the pork, and the beer signs. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
